Lake Tisza zaffarancho 2021.10.02-04.
We met at 11 am in the Szabics harbour in sparkling sunshine to start the first day's activities. For this half day we planned a visit to the Pákász nature trail, a 2 hour boat trip to the bird reserve and dinner at the Hableány hotel in the evening.
As a reminder to the participants:
Lovag National Captain
Phoenix and his captive Hilda
El Toro and his captive Judit
Tudor and his captive Elizabeth
Viking and his captive Rita
Vagabund and his captive Martha
Vidra and his captive Gabi
Brothers: Ábránd, Viharmadár, Uskok, Casador, Predator, Edi,
Our guests:
István Szabó and Erika, Lajos Baranyai and Krisztina, János Hoffer and Márta, Péter Perényi and Klára
After the mutual greetings, we boarded the ferry and were ferried to the other shore. There our guide was waiting for us, and in 5 minutes he gave us an unbelievable amount of information about the flora, fauna and aquatic life of the area. This knowledge and enthusiasm is a credit to the Reserve and a sign that its future is in good hands. We took an hour and a half walk and tried to memorize all the important information. One thing I will always remember is that the yellow sheaf fungus (Laetiporus sulphureus) does not live in the reserve, and it is not worth looking for it there.
We returned to the ferry and visited the floating houses parked in the Szabics harbour. (Many may disagree with the house, as I should have written small luxury apartment...) After docking, our host was waiting for us with a snack, which was a delicacy baked in an oven. I don't know the name, it reminded me of pumpkin pompos, but it was delicious and it was gone quickly.
Afterwards, most of us settled into our rooms at the Mermaid Hotel, and back in the harbour, we started our 2-hour boat tour of the water world. Since I have no poetic vein, I will not even attempt to describe what I saw. It is a wonderful, unforgettable experience and it is here in Hungary! The video prove my statement.
To close the day, Lovag National Captain opened the zaff. and we secured our prestige with two volleys in the restaurant. After a toast by Captains Phoenix and Abrand, we had a communal dinner with a starter of marrow toast, followed by meat soup and finally a mixed platter. We fought hard, but in the end the hotel won. After dinner we spent the time with pleasant anecdotes and conversation, and everyone went to bed at their own pace.
Our next day's programme started at 10am, when we boarded the Icebird motorbike and set off for Tiszacsege. The Tiszacsege fishing hut is at river kilometer 454, while the kilometer 426 marker is just before the Szabics harbour. This is a distance of 28 km, which took about 3 hours uphill and 2.5 hours downhill. This is no small amount of time, but the views of the Tisza, the good company and the excellent lunch at the tavern (fish stew, smoked and oily catfish, skate and catfish chowder) made the day pass quickly.
In anticipation we didn't order dinner at the hotel, just sat down at the tables in the evening for a chat. After a few Golpe de Canon, Captain Phoenix closed the zaff. and we retired.
On Monday morning we said our goodbyes, continuing our own programs to explore the area. The chronicler went on another 3-hour boat tour with his captive and friends, then visited the aquarium in Poroszlo, and only after lunch at the Cormorant Restaurant did we head home.
To sum up, we enjoyed a very pleasant time with well-organised activities. We met a little known landscape of the Tisza, excellent people, a slightly different cruising life with different priorities and atmosphere, and the beauty of river cruising.
